ROGER CLARKE, AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES MINISTER ANNOUNCES $29 MILLION EMERGENCY INPUT PLAN TO COMBAT BERRY BORER INFESTATION AND IMPROVE COFFEE NUTRITION - KINGSTON: In an effort to rescue the Jamaican coffee sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is providing $29 million dollars in emergency aid to combat the infestation of farms affected by the coffee Berry Borer pest, and to improve nutrition. The money will be used to purchase inputs such as chemicals and fertilizer.

Grant, Managing Director & CEO of Mavis Bank Coffee Factory Limited has announced that the company has declared a final price of $3,091.00 per box, (including the Coffee Industry Board cherry production cess of $91.00 per box, first payment of $2,000 per box and final payment of $1,000 per box) for the 2011-2012 crop and will pay a total of J$50M to six thousand (6,000) farmers for the delivery of some 52,000 boxes of coffee from August 1 to December 31, 2011.
